If you are lucky once in your life you will have a dog that connects to you like none other. If you are blessed, you'll have two. It's hard for anyone who hasn't had the joy of that sixth sense connection between human and that very special type of dog, a heartdog. It's as if the two of you become one through some type of psychic connection - each knowing what the other is feeling or needing. Yes, a heartdog is special, but a second one in a lifetime is miraculous. That was Dexter - my second in a lifetime heartdog.

Adopting Dexter from the shelter began what would turn out to be a life changing experience for me. You see the last dog I really connected to was a scraggly little lady mutt some 30 odd years ago. Losing her was so painful I swore never again to let a 'dog' that close to my heart. And I was successful at it, till Dexter came around...
Dexter managed to break through that icy wall I built around my heart so many years ago - something the countless numbers of dogs before him were never able to achieve. I'm not even certain when it happened - maybe it was that very first day?
At any rate, because of Dexter, I once again opened my heart and have not been the same since. Today we have six dogs in our home (not counting the temporary rescue pups), and I simply cannot imagine life without having so many paws around the house.
Sadly, Dexter lived not quite six years before we lost him (due to a debilitating spinal condition) several months ago. Dexter Dog Designs is my way of honoring my little buddy. Through him, I once again found the unbinding joys that exist between a 'boy' and 'his dog'. Because of Dexter, I became active in the rescue community by not only adopting rescued animals but also helping them find forever homes.
With today's economy, the forced cutbacks at work have left me in a position that no longer allows the extra expenses of volunteering my service as a transporter for the local rescues. Through Dexter Dog Designs I utilize my ability as a web-designer to help not only your rescue place more animals, but also to provide the funding so that I can continue to help give these wonderful balls of fur a 'ride to freedom'.

Dogs are wonderful creatures, and we as a race are blessed to have been given the chance to spend time with such a humble creature. People could do well to learn a lesson or two on friendship from a dog.
Dexter Dog Designs was created in his honor, as a way to help people find those special animals - like Dexter - who are waiting in shelters throughout the country.
He was a very special pup, and a dear friend. He is sorely missed. Through Dexter Dog Designs, our good friend continues to thrive.
